Grant Money!

Need grant money? Continue to read! The Nonprofit Times is offering two grants! The first grant it titled Community Action Grants Program. This grant is for organizations in the education field. This grant is specifically for “innovative programs or non-degree research projects that promote education and equity for women and girls” (Nonprofit Times). This is a great opportunity to receive funding for a program your business may be creating regarding education but are lacking the necessary funds. It is important to promote education because people, children more specifically, need to know that education is important. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your knowledge, so it’s best to learn as much as possible. Adults should be aware of the importance of education also because they should instill that value in children to want to gain an education to better themselves. The phrase “know better, do better” applies strongly in this situation. If people know better, people should do better; therefore, it is imperative that everyone value education to a great extent. Another grant that the Nonprofit Times is offering is titled American Honda Foundation Grants. This grant is focused on the youth but more specifically their education. Being both of these grants are directed to education, this shows the significance of education. To learn more about these grants, visit the websites below.

Giving Back...It Pays Off!

Thanksgiving is all about a time to be grateful for what you have. What is there to be thankful for? There are many things to be thankful for; life being one of them! Nonprofit Quarterly discusses the importance of the phrase “thank you.” We say it daily. When someone holds a door for us, when we sneeze and someone says, “Bless you,” when someone compliments us, we say thank you in return the kind action. Is there ever a time where we have analyzed the thanks we’re giving to someone for whatever reason it may be? Nonprofit Quarterly argues,“gratitude has historically been dismissed as simple, obvious, and unworthy of serious attention” (Hoffman). Ironically, the findings of a study has shown that showing gratitude often shows a correlation with people having “stronger immune systems, lower blood pressure, higher levels of positive emotions, and many more beneficial effects. The Nonprofit Times discuss the event Giving Tuesday. Because Black Friday and Cyber Monday cause numerous people to shop, this new event, Giving Tuesday, should encourage many to give whether it be in the form of service or donations. Imagine all the people who shopped on Black Friday and Cyber Monday; now imagine all of those people giving back. Imagine that affect on the world and in people’s lives!

Controversial Funds?

Should such confidential information such as salaries be released to the public? Would that help to determine the going rate at how employees with specific job titles should be compensated? According to The Nonprofit Times’s article “New York Nonprofit Salary Information,” salary information should be released so that competing companies know what is a reasonable amount to pay their employees. That sounds like a huge benefit to employees who may be seeking alternate job avenues. To see what other companies salary rates are may be a deal breaker to choose one job over the other. On the company side, deciding that employers may be over paying for employees may be revealed. This would be a negative affect on for employees or a positive one. The company who is over paying could ensure that it has no other competitors or it could choose to cut back on salary expenditures. However, The Nonprofit Times’s article “Illinois Seeks Pay Data From Nonprofits” has a different reason for wanting to collect salary information. Money could be used in an inappropriate manner; therefore, public record of salary data can assist in ensuring that funds are being allocated in the correct manner. It is intriguing to know that outside companies pay the salaries of executives in nonprofit organizations. It is also interesting how the same data from different states can be used for different purposes.
